What better a way to start the new year then with a new calendar. Using my new favorite supply, the craft stick, I created a small calendar stand and designed a month-at-a-glance calendar printable that is ready to download below.
First, you’ll want to cut your sticks to the proper length. Cut one end off all of them…
Measure 3-1/2 inches…
And then trim them to the correct length.
Now, take 5 of the cut sticks and glue them into a stack.
Use the binder clips to keep the sticks in place while drying.
Once dry, you’ll glue 2 more sticks on the sides to create a clean look.
Again use the binder clips to hold everything while it dries.
Even though the white glue dries clear, now is a good time to gently wipe away any excess that may have seeped out with a damp cloth.
The next step will be to glue the last 2 sticks on top the create the channel your calendar will sit in.
I glued one and then, once it was dry, glue the second. Just make sure you leave a thing space to fit your printable in.
After everything is completely dry, gently sand your edges, starting with the medium grit sandpaper, and moving to the fine grit. This will give you smooth ends, plus it saved us from having to sand each stick before we assembled them.
Your stand is now ready for the calendar!
Print the 2-page pdf on your card stock and cut on the trim marks.
Place the calendar month into the stand and you are ready to display!
You could choose to paint the stand (acrylic would work well), but I liked the clean unfinished look of the light-colored sticks.
I hope you’ll take some time to create this calendar to help your year start off on a crafty note.
Happy New Year from Mug Makes! The Mugs wish you a peaceful and prosperous 2019.
This is a really cool idea and so much easier than I would’ve thought!

Hi Stephanie,
That was a Lego kit I purchased a few years ago from an artist by the name of Chris McVeigh.

I’m not sure he sells this particular kit anymore, but he does have free PDFs with supplies and directions.
Thanks for the question!
